DESCRIPTION

There are some things that don't need doors: books you reread, ceramics you admire, boxes you open every week.

This low bookcase was made in the 20th century following the classic English model: a molded cornice under the top, sides with recessed panels, and a plinth on scrolled feet. Three open shelves, no doors and no glass.

The finish is from our workshop: hand-painted black, then distressed on edges, moldings, and corners to reveal the reddish base. The interior is in the same black, including shelves and back panel.

102 cm wide, 41 cm deep, and 110 cm high. The height is the deciding factor: 110 cm fits under most windows and leaves the top free as a second surface for a lamp, a mirror above, or whatever you put down when you enter. In the living room next to the sofa, in an entryway acting as a console with storage, or in the office, within reach of the chair.

WHAT WE LIKE MOST ABOUT THIS PIECE

→ The cornice. Molded in several steps under the top, like in English library furniture. This is what separates a bookcase from a simple shelf.

→ The scrolled feet. In a volute, emerging from the plinth. They support the piece and lift it just enough off the floor so it doesn't look heavy.

→ The distressed finish. The reddish base peeks through along each edge and molding, outlining the profile of the furniture. No wear occurs on flat surfaces; all of it is on the edges.

The structure was checked: the seating of the shelves, the connection of the sides to the plinth, and the stability of the feet. The entire body was hand-sanded before painting.

The black was applied by hand and distressed on edges and moldings. The shelves are firm, and the furniture stands plumb. It leaves the workshop finished: just place it and use it.

El mueble de biblioteca inglés se reconoce por dos cosas: la cornisa moldurada bajo el sobre y el panel rehundido en los costados. Este librero bajo es del siglo XX y sigue ese modelo, con tres alturas abiertas y pies recortados en voluta sobre el zócalo. En el taller se revisó la estructura, se lijó a mano y se pintó en negro, interior incluido. Después se decapó en aristas, molduras y cantos hasta dejar asomar la base rojiza. El desgaste va solo por el canto. El color es nuestro.
