DESCRIPTION

Some rooms are transformed by a single decision. A stately antique wardrobe, well placed, orders everything else: the bed, the light, even the silence.

This French wardrobe was built in the late 19th century with the classic repertoire of its era: dentil cornice, finials, turned columns, and two doors with carved flower baskets. It retains its working lock and key.

The color is ours, and we state it clearly: in our workshop, we have hand-customized it in a grayish blue with a distressed finish, worn piece by piece exactly where use would naturally cause it — edges, moldings, turned elements. The carving, proportions, and wood remain true to the 19th century. No mass-produced furniture today replicates a carved front like this.

At 211 cm high —225 with the finials— and 127 cm wide, it offers three shelves and a spacious bottom drawer. It commands a bedroom, resolves a high-ceilinged entryway, and functions as a clothes wardrobe or china cabinet in a living room. It ships partially disassembled, facilitating its passage through stairs and doors.

No two are alike. No replenishment will be available.

── WHAT WE LOVE MOST ABOUT THIS PIECE ──

→ The carved flower baskets on the doors: leaves, drops, and flowers meticulously crafted with a gouge, which the distressed finish highlights one by one. It's the kind of detail that is discovered up close and then cannot be un-seen.

→ The hand-applied blue from our workshop: layer by layer, with the wood showing through at the exact points of friction. A finish made by hands, not machines — and that's why no two pieces painted here are exactly alike.

→ The original lock with its key. Turning a real key in a real wardrobe is a gesture that modern furniture has forgotten.

── RESTORED IN OUR WORKSHOP IN NAVALCARNERO, MADRID ──

In the workshop, we review the entire structure, treat the wood against woodworms, hand-sand the surfaces, and apply the grayish blue custom color with a distressed finish. We adjust doors, drawer, and lock to ensure everything opens and closes as it should.

The structure is solid, the shelves are firm, the drawer glides smoothly, and the lock works with its key. It arrives ready to take its place.

Frequently asked questions

Is it an original antique armoire or a reproduction?

It is an original French armoire from the late 19th century: dentil cornice, turned columns, hand-carved floral baskets, and a functioning period lock. The distressed blue color, however, is a recent customization applied by hand in our workshop, and we state this with full transparency.

What restoration work has been carried out?

Complete structural overhaul, woodworm treatment, hand sanding, customization of the color to a grayish blue with a distressed finish, and adjustment of doors, drawer, and lock. The work was carried out in our specialized workshop in Navalcarnero.

Where does this armoire look best in a home?

In a bedroom as a main wardrobe, in a high-ceilinged entryway, or in a living room as a storage piece with presence. It measures 127 cm wide and 211 cm high—225 cm with the finials—with a body of 120 x 45 cm.

How is shipping handled for a piece of this size?

Shipping is free throughout the Iberian Peninsula and includes delivery inside the home with packaging removal. The armoire travels partially disassembled, which facilitates its passage through stairs and doors.
