DESCRIPTION

The good china lives in a box, at the top of a cabinet. It is taken out twice a year and the rest of the time it doesn't exist.

This oak display cabinet bookcase was manufactured in France at the beginning of the 20th century, following the Louis XVI model: molded cornice with corner blocks, three glass doors with a wooden panel at the base and truncated cone legs topped with brass sabots.

The oak is solid. It was stripped and sanded by hand in our workshop until it was raw, matte, and with an open pore.

The interior is another matter: hand-painted sage green on the tongue-and-groove plank back, the sides, and the nine shelves. The piece is vintage, the color is ours. Against this light background, everything placed inside stands out.

The three glass panes are original, and the three locks retain their pierced brass key escutcheons with their keys.

188 cm wide, 40 cm deep, and 180 cm high. Forty centimeters deep is that of a bookshelf, not a wardrobe: it takes up the long wall of a living room, dining room, or wide hallway without encroaching on the room.

WHAT TO LOOK AT CLOSELY

→ The original glass panes. The three leaves retain the vintage glass, with the undulation characteristic of manual stretching. You notice it when you walk past: the reflection shimmers.

→ The brass key escutcheons. Three pierced shields with volutes, one per door, with their palmette key. They are mounted directly on the oak, without a surrounding plate.

→ The tongue-and-groove back. Behind the shelves are vertical planks assembled one by one. The joint is still visible under the paint.

→ The brass sabots. Each leg ends in a brass block that separates the wood from the floor. It dates the furniture and prevents the oak from absorbing moisture.

RESTORED IN OUR WORKSHOP IN NAVALCARNERO, MADRID

The oak was stripped and sanded by hand until it was raw, with a matte finish. The entire interior was hand-painted in sage green: back, sides, and shelves, with slight wear on the edges. The three doors were checked on their hinges, and the three locks with their keys were verified.

The green is ours and declared. The oak, glass, and hardware are original. The structure rests plumb on its brass sabots, and the shelves sit firmly. It is shipped disassembled, and home assembly is included in the price.

Frequently asked questions

Is it an original period display cabinet or a reproduction?

It is an original piece from the early 20th century, made of solid oak. It retains its three original glass panes, with the undulation of hand-pulled glass, and its brass keyholes with keys. The sage green interior is a finish from our workshop.

What restoration work has been carried out?

The oak was stripped and hand-sanded until it was raw and matte. The interior was hand-painted in sage green, and the three doors, their hinges, and their key locks were checked. The work was carried out in our specialized workshop in Navalcarnero.

Where does this display cabinet look best at home?

With 188 cm wide and only 40 cm deep, it can organize the long wall of a living room, serve as a crockery cabinet in a dining room, or a bookcase with a door in an office. It needs 180 cm of free height.

How is the shipping of a piece of this size managed?

Shipping is free throughout the Iberian Peninsula. Delivery is carried out by the store's own staff: the display cabinet travels disassembled, we assemble it and place it inside the home, where access allows, and we remove the packaging. We do not deliver at street level.

What guarantees does Antique Arte y Decoración offer?

We have been specializing in the selection and restoration of antique furniture since 2015. More than 3,500 families throughout Spain and a rating of 4.9 out of 5 on Google. You can contact us before buying for any questions about the piece.
