DESCRIPTION

A closed piece of furniture forces a choice: either stored or displayed. A display cabinet is the only piece that does both at once.

This English display cabinet was made between the late 19th and early 20th centuries: molded cornice, a single glazed door with a stepped frame, an exposed drawer at the base, and bracket feet. It locks with its key.

The finish is from our workshop: matte black on the outside, cream on the inside. The contrast works like a lamp: everything placed inside stands out against a light background. The four shelves rest on wooden toothed racks and can be adjusted in height without tools. And beneath the base drawer, the plinth hides a second drawer with no visible handle.

105 cm wide, 50 cm deep, and 207 cm high. It is a living room display cabinet for dinnerware, glassware, or books; in an office, it serves as a bookcase with a door, and in a dining room, it organizes without blocking light.

WHAT ISN'T MADE TODAY

→ The hidden drawer. The plinth conceals a second drawer without a handle, beneath the visible one. Anyone who doesn't know it's there won't find it. It's the kind of detail that disappeared from catalogs.

→ The toothed racks. The shelves rest on wooden combs carved into the sides: lift the shelf, move it to a different tooth, and it's at a different height. Adjustable for a century, without a single piece of hardware.

→ The lion pull. A lion's head with a ring, in brass, on the visible drawer. The hardware that hallmarks English furniture.

RESTORED IN OUR WORKSHOP IN NAVALCARNERO, MADRID

The color is ours and stated: matte black on the outside and cream on the inside, hand-painted after sanding the surface. The door was checked on its hinges, the lock with its key was verified, and the two drawers were adjusted.

The structure rests plumb on its bracket feet, and the four shelves sit firmly on their racks. It leaves the workshop finished: just place and use.

Frequently asked questions

Is it an original piece or a reproduction?

It is an authentic antique English display cabinet, manufactured between the late 19th and early 20th centuries, with wooden sawtooth racks, a lock and key, and a brass lion handle. The black and cream finish is from our workshop, and we always state this: the piece is antique, the color is ours.

What restoration work has been carried out?

It was hand-sanded and painted matte black on the outside and cream on the inside. The structure, the door on its hinges, and the lock with its key were checked, and the two drawers were adjusted. The work was carried out in our specialized workshop in Navalcarnero.

Where does this piece look best in a home?

Measuring 105 cm wide, 50 cm deep, and 207 cm high, it organizes a living room or dining room as a display cabinet for tableware and glassware, and serves as a bookcase with a door in an office. The cream interior highlights what is displayed.

How is the shipping of a piece of this size managed?

Shipping is free throughout mainland Spain. Delivery is carried out by the store's own staff: we place the piece inside the home, where access allows, and remove the packaging. We do not deliver to the street level.

What guarantees does Antique Arte y Decoración offer?

Since 2015, we have specialized in the selection and restoration of antique furniture. More than 3,500 families throughout Spain and a rating of 4.9 out of 5 on Google. You can contact us before purchasing for any questions about the piece.
