DESCRIPTION

There are rooms that are organized by what is stored. And there are rooms that are defined by what is chosen to be displayed.

This cherry wood display cabinet is in the Louis Philippe style, manufactured in France during the second half of the 20th century following traditional 19th-century cabinet-making techniques. Two sections, straight cornice, fluted friezes, sliding glass doors, and recessed brass hardware. The proportions of an authentic Louis Philippe are not mass-produced.

The solid cherry wood has a warm tone that brightens with natural light — more reddish in the morning, more honey-colored in the mid-afternoon. The drawers close with visible, hand-assembled dovetail joints. The handles are patinated brass, two in the shape of a classic shell for the drawers and two rectangular recessed ones for the sliding doors. The lower part closes with two doors and brass locks with a circular keyhole.

225 centimeters high, 156 wide. A piece of furniture designed for living rooms with high ceilings, offices, or dining rooms where items are served and stored. It also functions as a glass bookcase — old books are protected from dust without losing their presence.

No two are alike. There will be no restocking.

── WHAT WE LIKE MOST ABOUT THIS PIECE ──

→ The sliding glass doors of the upper section. It is a more complex cabinet-making solution than the traditional hinged door — they fit into rails carved directly into the wood, without modern hardware. They slide one over the other and allow for interior organization without a door swing invading the room.

→ The fluted friezes on the cornice and the drawer fronts. Each flute is carved into the solid wood, not applied afterwards. This is manual routing work on solid cherry wood — the difference is noticeable to the touch.

→ The aged solid cherry wood. Cherry wood, with age, does not fade: it deepens. The original tone gains body and small knots become points of character. No modern veneer does that.

── RESTORED IN OUR WORKSHOP IN NAVALCARNERO, MADRID ──

In the workshop, we have reviewed the complete structure of both sections, adjusted the sliding of the doors so they move effortlessly again, and cleaned and patinated the brass hardware without removing the marks of age. The wood has been hand-sanded in areas that required it and a new varnish has been applied to the cherry, respecting its original tone.

The drawers slide in and out smoothly, the lower doors close with their original locks, and the sliding doors work without sticking. The interior is clean, and the shelves are in place. It arrives ready to take its place.

A piece selected and restored by Antique Arte y Decoración — specializing in antique furniture since 2015, with our own workshop in Navalcarnero, 30 minutes from Madrid, and over 3,500 families served throughout Spain.

Preguntas frecuentes
