DESCRIPTION

There are corners of a home that demand more than just storage. They demand a piece of furniture with presence, the kind that organizes not only objects but also the way of living among them.

This Louis XV style secretaire was manufactured in the second half of the 20th century, following the lines that made 18th-century French furniture recognizable: the bombé front, the arched pediment, the cabriole legs. Solid wood crafted with a washed finish, that light and natural tone that allows the grain to breathe.

The upper part is a two-door display cabinet with metal mesh instead of glass, a rustic French cabinetry technique that allows for both display and ventilation. Behind it, the sage green painted interior turns each shelf into a small showcase. Below, the drop-front hides five drawers and a central compartment, the discreet heart of any self-respecting secretaire.

Standing 220 cm high, 120 cm wide, and 54 cm deep, it is a piece with presence. It calls for an uncluttered wall in a living room, an office, or a spacious entrance hall, where it can assert itself without apology. The proportions of a Louis XV piece are not improvised on an assembly line: they are handcrafted, piece by piece, or they are not achieved.

No two are alike. There will be no restock.

── WHAT WE LOVE MOST ABOUT THIS PIECE ──

→ The metal mesh doors. Where others would put glass, this display cabinet breathes. And the sage green background makes what you store inside look intentionally chosen, not just placed.

→ The washed finish. It lightens the wood without hiding it: you can see the grain, feel the pore, and sense the hand that sanded it. No industrial laminate achieves that depth.

→ The three uses in one piece. Display cabinet on top, desk in the middle, three-drawer chest below. It solves the organization of an entire room without the need for three different pieces of furniture.

── RESTORED IN OUR WORKSHOP IN NAVALCARNERO, MADRID ──

The piece passed through our workshop in Navalcarnero, 30 minutes from Madrid. We reviewed the structure of both sections, adjusted the fit of the mesh doors and the brass hardware, and checked that the drop-front and the five interior drawers slid as they should. The surface was hand-sanded to even out the washed finish.

Today it arrives with a firm structure, drawers functioning smoothly, and a clean and uniform sage green interior. It arrives ready to take its place.

A piece selected and restored by Antique Arte y Decoración — specializing since 2015 in antique furniture, with its own workshop in Navalcarnero and serving more than 3,500 families throughout Spain.

Preguntas frecuentes
