DESCRIPTION

Some rooms demand a focal point. Something to anchor the rest: a piece with weight, with presence, around which everything else finds its place.

This two-part sideboard was built in France in the late 19th century, made of solid walnut in the Henri II style. It is dining room furniture of the finest craftsmanship: designed to last generations and carved by hands that knew their trade.

The upper section combines beveled glass display cases with a central carved relief panel —rosette, acanthus, foliage— flanked by spiral columns. Above the open shelf, two turned balusters and an openwork gallery with a star motif. Below, two drawers with brass pulls and two doors with deeply carved medallions. This level of hand carving is not found in furniture manufactured today.

With a width of 150 cm, a depth of 54 cm, and a height of 232 cm, it is a spacious dining room piece: it demands a prominent wall and offers enclosed storage, drawers, and a display case. In a high-ceilinged living-dining room, it organizes the entire space around it.

No two are alike. There will be no restocking.

── WHAT WE LOVE MOST ABOUT THIS PIECE ──

→ The carving. It is not applied or superficial: the medallions on the doors, the acanthus leaves, and the central rosette are worked directly into the wood, with real relief. It is the first thing you see and the last thing you stop looking at.

→ The natural tone of the walnut. Decades of life have given the wood a uniform, matte warmth, without the artificial shine of modern varnishes. It is the tone sought today and only achieved with time.

→ Its dual function. Display cabinet above for what you want to show, closed sideboard below for what you prefer to store. The presence of antique furniture and daily utility in the same piece.

── RESTORED IN OUR WORKSHOP IN NAVALCARNERO, MADRID ──

We have reviewed the complete structure of both sections, checked the fit of doors and drawers, and the condition of the hinges and brass hardware. The wood has been cleaned and treated respecting its natural tone, and the beveled glass panels have been inspected one by one.

The piece is sturdy, with doors and drawers that open and close as they should, and a healthy, homogeneous surface. It arrives ready to take its place.

A piece selected and restored by Antique Arte y Decoración —specializing since 2015 in antique furniture, with its own workshop in Navalcarnero and more than 3,500 families served throughout Spain.

Preguntas frecuentes
