DESCRIPTION

There are corners that remain empty for years. Not for lack of space, but because very few pieces are designed to fit into the angle of a wall.

This display cabinet was manufactured in England in the mid-20th century, following the canons of classic English furniture. It was made to utilize the corner without sacrificing the elegance of a living room display cabinet.

It is constructed from yew wood, with that warm grain ranging from honey to mahogany, highlighted by a fine boxwood fillet inlaid by hand. The upper body opens with a glazed door with six panes beneath a curved pediment; the lower body encloses a blind paneled door. A grain like that of yew cannot be replicated in any modern factory.

It measures 187 cm high and rests on two 46 cm sides, so it occupies the corner without invading the room. It fits in a living room, dining room, or hallway where an angle was crying out for something more than a bare wall.

No two are alike. There will be no replenishment.

── WHAT WE LIKE MOST ABOUT THIS PIECE ──

→ The yew wood. It is one of the most prized woods in English furniture: dense, luminous, and with a lively grain. The boxwood fillet that runs through it is inlaid piece by piece, a job that hardly anyone does today.

→ The passage of time on the varnish. Six or seven decades have given the surface a depth and a warm luster that no new finish can imitate.

→ Its way of solving the corner. It transforms the dead angle of a room—that space you never know how to use—into a focal point.

── RESTORED IN OUR WORKSHOP IN NAVALCARNERO, MADRID ──

We have inspected the structure of both sections, reinforced the joints where use required it, and checked the seating of the glazed door and its panes. The surface has been hand-cleaned and refreshed, respecting the original patina and color of the yew.

The display cabinet is firm, with well-fitting doors, the glass in good condition, and uniform varnish. It arrives ready to take its place.

A piece selected and restored by Antique Arte y Decoración — specializing in antique furniture since 2015, with our own workshop in Navalcarnero and over 3,500 families throughout Spain.

Preguntas frecuentes
