DESCRIPTION

There are wardrobes that serve to store clothes. And then there's this one.

This wardrobe arrived from the late 19th century with such a defined identity that it doesn't need you to adorn it: it's the one that adorns the room.

It is a single-door armoire in the purest Provençal Louis XV style. Solid walnut wood in the structure, with door panels veneered in elm burl—that honey-colored grain with irregular flames that no current finish can reproduce because it doesn't come from a factory: it comes from the inside of a tree that grew for decades.

The door has three panels separated by wavy moldings, each framed with the characteristic asymmetric curve of Louis XV. On the upper frieze, a hand-carved scallop shell. The same shell appears on the lower rail and on the cresting, where it is accompanied by acanthus scrolls. The sabre feet—that slightly curved saber leg that only the cabinetmakers of the period managed to make with this proportion—complete a silhouette that has not aged a single day.

The interior, in natural walnut, has four adjustable shelves on wooden sawtooth supports. No modern concoctions: wood on wood, as it was done then.

It measures 83.7 cm wide × 44 cm deep × 177 cm high. It fits in rooms where built-in wardrobes have no place, and turns any corner into a decorative statement.

No two are alike. There will be no restocking.

── WHAT WE LIKE MOST ABOUT THIS PIECE ──

→ The burl veneer on the door. It's not paint, it's not vinyl, it's not paper. It's elm burl cut into thin sheets and applied to the panel. Each piece has a different pattern. This one has a pattern you won't see again on any other piece of furniture.

→ The shell carvings at three points. On the upper frieze of the door, on the cresting, and on the lower rail. Three times the same motif, in three different scales. The type of repetition that gives coherence to a piece and only appears in custom-made furniture.

→ The sabre feet. That outward curve at the tip of the foot is the hallmark of authentic Louis XV. Impossible to imitate well in industrial production: here they are carved from the same solid wood, with the correct proportion.

── REFURBISHED IN OUR WORKSHOP IN NAVALCARNERO, MADRID ──

In the workshop, we reviewed the structure, adjusted the door, and reinforced the interior joints. The wood was treated against wood-boring insects. The interior shelves are clean and stable. The exterior finish—natural varnish on walnut and burl—retains its original patina, which is exactly what should be preserved in a piece of this era.

It arrives refurbished, stable, and ready to use from day one.

A piece selected and restored by Antique Arte y Decoración — specialists since 2015 in antique furniture, with our own workshop in Navalcarnero and more than 3,500 families throughout Spain.

Preguntas frecuentes
