DESCRIPTION

For generations, the most important piece of furniture in a French kitchen was not the table. It was the dresser. It displayed what the household valued, and it measured the pride of its owner. A wooden dresser like this doesn't just store tableware; it presents it.

This piece was built in the mid-20th century from solid wood, following the model of an 18th-century Provencal vaisselier: a lower section with doors and drawers, an open upper section with shelves for plates, wavy valances, and carved rosettes on each side of the top.

In our workshop, we restored it to its natural wood, hand-sanding it until it regained its honey tone, with lightly shaded moldings that add depth to the whole. The interiors —doors, shelves, and drawers— were painted in an aged sage green, a contrast only revealed when opened. The iron hardware, with its keyholes and key, are original to the piece.

Measuring 140 cm wide, 50 cm deep, and 212 cm high, it organizes a kitchen, a dining room, or that living room corner that yearns for something with history. The shelves of the upper section have a rail to support plates vertically, as has always been done. And a practical detail: it is delivered in two independent sections, so it fits easily through stairs and doors where a 212 cm one-piece furniture would not pass.

No two are alike. There will be no restocking.

── WHAT WE LIKE MOST ABOUT THIS PIECE ──

→ The sage green interior. On the outside, serene natural wood; when you open any door or drawer, color. This kind of surprise does not exist in catalog furniture, where the interior is the part where costs are cut.

→ The carved rosettes and the wavy valance that runs along the base and the top. Carvings made with a gouge on solid wood — a craftsmanship that no current factory undertakes in a mass-produced piece of furniture.

→ Its double life: a daily dresser in a kitchen or a presentation piece in a dining room. The plate rails in the upper section turn any dinnerware into decoration.

── RESTORED IN OUR WORKSHOP IN NAVALCARNERO, MADRID ──

In our workshop, we stripped and hand-sanded the entire exterior surface back to natural wood, checked the structure of both sections, and adjusted drawers, doors, and butt hinges. The interiors were painted in sage green with an aged finish, applied and patinated in the workshop.

The piece is in excellent condition. Firm structure, smoothly gliding drawers, doors that lock with their key. It arrives ready to take its place.

A piece selected and restored by Antique Arte y Decoración — specialized since 2015 in antique furniture, with its own workshop in Navalcarnero and over 3,500 families served throughout Spain.

Preguntas frecuentes
