There are sideboards that store things. And there are sideboards that preserve the character of a home.

This is one of the latter. And with 210 cm of carved solid oak, it does so with an undeniable authority.

It is a sideboard of French regional tradition—Breton or Norman—from the late 19th or early 20th century. The kind of furniture made in rural joinery workshops when it still mattered that every centimeter of the piece was expertly crafted. The result is this: a three-body front where no surface is left unworked, from the scale frieze under the top to the side pilasters with superimposed acanthus leaves.

The central motif of the doors is the *pointe de diamant*—the diamond-point panel, four embossed triangles that converge in the center forming a pyramidal star. It is the hallmark of French regional joinery. Each panel is cut with a mirrored grain, creating a radiating composition that the eye follows effortlessly.

The top is an oak parquet in a checkerboard pattern: small pieces with the grain alternated at 90 degrees, a technique that compensates for the natural movement of the wood and gives the surface a visual texture that no single-piece top can have.

In our workshop, we have left it natural. No dark varnish, no stain. Just clean oak, in the color it has when the wood breathes. The result fits equally well in a country house or an urban apartment with polished concrete floors.

The piece has been treated against wood-boring insects, fully inspected for its structure—joints, doors, drawers, and hardware—and left natural with a protective oak oil treatment. The doors open and close correctly with their original wrought iron hardware. The drawers slide on their original wooden runners.

It arrives ready to take its place.
