DESCRIPTION

There are homes where the living room simply exists. And there are homes where the living room says something about the people who live in them.

This early 20th-century cupboard comes from a time when furniture was built to last generations. The Art Nouveau style that defines it was not mass-produced: its floral carvings, its curved moldings, its fluted organ-pipe feet are the result of artisanal work that no current factory reproduces.

Two well-differentiated sections. The upper section has a central arched stained-glass window with original glass, flanked by two blind doors with vegetable carvings. A central band with an antique mercury mirror showing signs of age. The lower section has two drawers and two panel doors decorated with the same hand-carved floral motif. The interior is hand-painted in off-white. The sage green exterior, worked in a distressed finish, allows the ocher background to show through wherever time and sanding have allowed.

It measures 154.6 cm wide × 50 cm deep × 212 cm high. A piece that presides without imposing: it works in dual-purpose living rooms, in dining rooms with a prominent wall, in spacious entrances, or in any room where you want something to tell a story.

No two are alike. There will be no restocking.

── WHAT WE LIKE MOST ABOUT THIS PIECE ──

→ The original mercury mirror in the central band. Over a hundred years old, it has that perimeter oxidation and marks that new mirrors cannot imitate: a real patina that immediately places the piece in its era.

→ The distressed sage green finish over an ocher background. It is not a uniform or industrial finish: each area has its own rhythm of wear. The edges, feet, and carved borders naturally show the background. This is how distressing is done when executed with discernment.

→ The two-section proportion. The upper section is airy thanks to the interplay of blind doors and a stained-glass window. The lower section is solid. The ensemble has the visual stability that only furniture designed with correct proportions from the outset can provide.

── RESTORED IN OUR WORKSHOP IN NAVALCARNERO, MADRID ──

In the workshop, we reviewed the entire structure, reinforced joints where time had created looseness, and treated the wood against wood-boring insects. Surfaces were prepared with hand-sanding before applying the color. Sage green was chosen to respect the tonal scale of the piece and allow the background to appear naturally in the distressed finish.

The furniture arrives sound, stable, and with its mechanisms working. Doors and drawers open and close correctly. It arrives ready to take its place.

A piece selected and restored by Antique Arte y Decoración — specialized since 2015 in antique furniture, with our own workshop in Navalcarnero and over 3,500 families served throughout Spain.

Preguntas frecuentes
