A large entryway needs something to catch the eye as soon as you enter. Not a small painting on a wall that begs for more: a piece with its own presence and a color not seen in every home.

This mirror is a modern piece, restored for our catalog. It is of recent manufacture and is declared as such: it doesn't try to pass for antique, it aims to be well-made. We chose it for the carving of its frame and for a finish that is not bought ready-made.

The frame is made of solid wood with relief carving: a pediment with an undulating molding and a floral motif in each corner, and fluted moldings on the sides. The finish is distressed blue: paint applied over a white base and then hand-distressed on the reliefs and edges, so that the white peeks through where wear would naturally expose it over the years. Each corner is distressed differently: no two are alike.

104 cm wide by 85 cm high, with a depth of 5 cm. It is a wall-mounted piece, not for leaning: it fits well above an entryway console, over a sink, or in a living room lacking depth without occupying floor space.

THREE DETAILS THAT DEFINE IT

→ The hand distressing. The distressed finish doesn't come from the factory: it's hand-sanded after painting, corner by corner, until the white appears exactly where we want it to.

→ The pediment carving. A floral relief motif in each upper corner, with the scrollwork following the classic Louis XV design without copying any specific piece.

→ The size. 104 × 85 cm is large for a wall mirror: it visually covers what two smaller pieces combined cannot achieve.

In our workshop, the distressed blue finish was applied: two coats of paint over the white base and subsequent hand-distressing on the reliefs, corners, and edges of the frame.

The frame is firm, with no looseness in the carved moldings, and the mirror is securely held without broken bevels or oxidation marks.
