Unique piece, no restocking

This exceptional Maidra or Sloping Lid Chest (circa 1850-1880) is a testament to European vernacular woodworking. Originally used in farmhouses for storing grain or flour, its elevated design also allowed it to be used as a writing desk or standing counter.

DESCRIPTION

The piece has been restored respecting its history but adapting it to current interiors:

The Case: It retains its original dark patina, deep and full of character, which highlights the geometric, rhombus-shaped moldings ("Diamond Point").

The Lid: It has been subjected to a hand-stripped wood washing process to reveal the bare beauty of the pitch pine wood, creating a luminous and sophisticated contrast ideal for Wabi-Sabi, Mediterranean or Modern Rustic styles.

Quality Construction Details
Unlike simple rustic furniture, this piece stands out for its sturdiness:

Assemblies: Traditional construction using mortise and tenon with visible wooden pegs (without screws).

Hardware: It features impressive hand-forged iron hinges (strip type), which are not only functional but also decorative, providing that industrial and authentic touch.

Back: Rustic wide-plank finish, a testament to its era.

Decorating Ideas
Thanks to its height (console type), it is much more versatile than a low trunk:

In the Hallway: Perfect for leaving keys and hiding shoes or bags in its large interior.

In the Kitchen: As an auxiliary island or pantry unit with a lot of character.

In a Restaurant/Shop: As a reception counter or support furniture.
