DESCRIPTION

There are bedrooms that are furnished in an afternoon and bedrooms that are built around a single piece. This armoire is one of those that builds rooms.

It was made in the 19th century, in the French tradition of grand bedroom armoires: hand-carved undulated cresting, turned and fluted columns, acorn finials, and two doors with original beveled mirrors. Back then, an armoire was not merely a backdrop for a room: it was the piece that announced how a household lived.

The mirrors, with their perimeter bevel, double the light in the room and serve as a dressing area without taking up an extra inch. Below them, a lower drawer with bronze handles and dovetail joints. The interior, lacquered in a cream tone, offers five heights of shelves and two interior drawers: it stores more than its slender silhouette suggests. The washed wood, in its natural tone, shows the grain without obscuring varnishes.

Measuring 140 cm wide, 55.5 cm deep, and 234 cm high, it presides over a bedroom, solves a dressing room dilemma, or adds a touch of character to a high-ceilinged entrance hall. A factory-made equivalent is bought in an afternoon and forgotten in a year; this one has been in style for over a century.

No two are alike. There will be no restock.

── WHAT WE LOVE MOST ABOUT THIS PIECE ──

→ The double-arched crest with a dentil frieze and central floral carving: it is the signature of the piece and the detail that distinguishes it from any modern mirrored wardrobe.

→ The original beveled mirrors, with that slightly silvery depth that only antique glass possesses.

→ The contrast between the washed wood exterior and the cream lacquered interior with shelves and drawers: outside it's the 19th century, inside it's a perfectly useful wardrobe today.

── RESTORED IN OUR WORKSHOP IN NAVALCARNERO, MADRID ──

The piece has been entirely structurally reviewed: doors adjusted, hardware and locks working with their original key, drawer sliding smoothly, and reinforcements where the passage of time required them. The wood has been treated against xylophages and sanded by hand to restore its natural washed tone; the interior has been conditioned with cream lacquer.

Like all antique furniture, it retains small marks of its history that add character. Firm structure, original mirrors in good condition. It arrives ready to take its place.

A piece selected and restored by Antique Arte y Decoración — specialists since 2015 in antique furniture, with their own workshop in Navalcarnero and serving over 3,500 families throughout Spain.

Preguntas frecuentes
