There are rooms where one works and rooms where one thinks. The difference, almost always, is marked by a single piece of furniture.

This antique writing desk was built in the 18th century, when a writing piece was the heart of a home: where accounts were kept, documents were stored, and important letters were written. Its creator worked the solid wood with the sole urgency of doing it well.

The upper body alternates carved doors with Baroque cartouches and a central wooden latticework door topped with an arch, a carpentry work that no modern factory reproduces piece by piece. The drop-down lid reveals an interior of drawers and compartments with original wrought iron handles, and the lower body hides, behind its three carved doors, six drawers and large-capacity shelves. The wood, in its natural washed tone, shows a grain where no two pieces are alike.

Measuring 136 cm wide, 63 cm deep, and 177 cm high, it functions as a desk in an office, as a tall sideboard in a living room, or as a main piece in a spacious hallway. Closed, it is sober. Open, it is a small world.

── WHAT WE LOVE MOST ABOUT THIS PIECE ──

→ The central wooden latticework, carved and topped with an arch. It is the detail that defines the piece: a lattice made strip by strip, by hand, that filters light into the upper body.

→ The nearly three-century-old patina: the open grain, the wrought iron handles darkened by use, the marks of time on the top. None of this can be manufactured today — it can only be inherited.

→ Its double life: a complete desk with a drop-down lid and, at the same time, a serious storage unit, with six interior drawers, shelves, and three storage heights.

The piece has been structurally reviewed in its entirety: doors, hinges, and drawers have been adjusted, it has been reinforced where the passage of time required it, and the wood has been treated against wood-boring insects. The surface has been hand-sanded, respecting the natural tone of the wood and its original patina.

As an antique piece from the 18th century, it shows signs of use and minor imperfections typical of its age. We do not hide them: they are part of its history and are precisely what gives value to the piece. Firm structure, lid, and doors functioning smoothly. It arrives ready to take its place.
