DESCRIPTION

There are objects that are stored and objects that are displayed. The former fit into any closet. The latter demand light, glass, and a certain ceremony.

This pair of Louis XV style display cabinets was manufactured in the mid-20th century, when European workshops still crafted marquetry in the classic manner. Two twin pieces, conceived together and preserved together — something increasingly difficult to find.

The herringbone veneer frames each front with bicolour marquetry inlays, and the gilded bronzes do the rest: an openwork frieze under the top, garlands with bows, medallions, and sabots that finish the cabriole legs. A black lacquered wooden top crowns the ensemble. Each display cabinet opens with its key — functional locks — and holds two glass shelves above a mirrored base that reflects light onto whatever you display. A bronze application work that no current factory replicates in series.

Measuring 69 cm wide, 40.5 cm deep, and 165 cm high each, they work well flanking a fireplace, a sideboard, or the entrance to a living room. Also separately: one in the dining room with glassware, the other in the hall with whatever you want to show of yourself.

No two are alike. There will be no replenishment.

── WHAT WE LIKE MOST ABOUT THIS PIECE ──

→ The fact that they are a pair: two twin display cabinets that have remained together since their manufacture. Finding one such display cabinet is reasonable; finding both is increasingly rare.

→ The mirrored base and glass shelves: light passes through the piece and multiplies what it displays, a feature of classic French display cases that time has respected intact.

→ The gilded bronzes with their patina: garlands, medallions, and friezes that half a century has softened without dulling. That tone cannot be found in any catalogue.

── RESTORED IN OUR WORKSHOP IN NAVALCARNERO, MADRID ──

Both display cabinets have been structurally revised in our workshop: joints, hinges, and shelves checked one by one. The locks have been adjusted so that each door closes with its key, and the veneer and bronzes have been cleaned and consolidated, respecting the period finish.

The current condition is solid and stable, with the typical patina of a well-preserved mid-20th-century piece. They arrive ready to take their place.

A piece selected and restored by Antique Arte y Decoración — specialists since 2015 in antique furniture, with their own workshop in Navalcarnero and over 3,500 families throughout Spain.

Preguntas frecuentes
