DESCRIPTION

Some rooms are filled with furniture. And some rooms are arranged around a single piece.

The difference is almost never the size. It's the presence.

This two-part display cabinet was built in the last quarter of the 19th century, in the Henri II style that revived the fluted columns and carved pediments of the Renaissance. It was handcrafted by a cabinetmaker, with a patience that almost no one has today.

The arched crest features an acanthus and volute carving that is not replicated in any other piece. The fluted columns frame the two glass doors, and the drawers retain their hand-incised diamond and branch motif. When you open a drawer, the hand-cut dovetail joints tell its age better than any document. That type of joinery doesn't come from any assembly line.

At 137 cm wide and 233 cm high, it demands a wall with presence: a dining room, a spacious living room, an entrance hall with high ceilings. Behind the glass, the sage green interior makes dinnerware, books, or ceramics look like collector's items.

No two are alike. There will be no replenishment.

── WHAT WE LIKE MOST ABOUT THIS PIECE ──

→ The sage green interior, a personalization from our workshop, turns the background into a stage: everything you place inside gains depth and contrast. No new display cabinet is designed to showcase what you store in this way.

→ The washed wood leaves the grain exposed, without varnishes to cover it. It's a finish that softens the furniture without erasing time: the small marks of use are still there, and are part of what makes it unique.

→ The two sections solve two needs at once: you display behind glass upstairs, and store behind a closed door downstairs, with two intermediate drawers. You show what you want to see and hide what you don't. Few pieces do both with such elegance.

── RESTORED IN OUR WORKSHOP IN NAVALCARNERO, MADRID ──

We restored the piece while respecting its character. We sanded the wood by hand until it was washed, treated the entire structure against wood-boring insects, and checked joints, doors, drawers, and locks, which retain their original keys. The interior was hand-painted in sage green.

Today the structure is firm, the glass doors close with their original feel, and the drawers slide like the first day. The finish is stable and uniform. It arrives ready to take its place.

A piece selected and restored by Antique Arte y Decoración — specialized since 2015 in antique furniture, with its own workshop in Navalcarnero and over 3,500 families throughout Spain.

Preguntas frecuentes
