DESCRIPTION

There's a gesture that has almost been lost: sitting down, unhurriedly, in front of a well-placed mirror, and dedicating five minutes to yourself. You don't need a large room to reclaim it. You just need the right piece of furniture.

This modernist dressing table is an early 20th-century piece, from the time when Art Nouveau brought its soft lines and floral motifs to bedrooms. The curved top, finished with floral carvings at the corners, and the tall, Viennese-inspired legs clearly place it in that period.

The mirror is tilting: it pivots on two side supports to adjust the angle, with its beveled glass. Below it, there's a service shelf and a drawer with a brass pull. The entire piece is hand-painted in a warm stripped-back gray that allows the wood to show through at the edges—the finish they now call "quiet luxury" and which here is, simply, the well-managed passage of time.

It measures 86 cm wide and 145 cm high with the mirror; the shelf is at 76.5 cm, with a free legroom of 63 cm. It fits in a bedroom, a dressing room, or a spacious entryway, and functions as both a dressing table and a small desk.

No two are alike. There will be no replenishment.

── WHAT WE LIKE MOST ABOUT THIS PIECE ──

→ The tilting mirror with its floral carvings. The mechanism that allows it to tilt still works, and the floral motifs carved into the top are the signature of modernism. The slender proportions of an authentic Art Nouveau piece of furniture are not replicated in mass-produced furniture.

→ The hand-stripped finish. The warm gray, re-treated in our workshop, allows the wood to show through at the edges and provides that depth that factory-painted furniture never has. Every scuff tells its story.

→ The dual use. With the shelf at 76.5 cm and legroom, it serves equally well as a dressing table in front of the mirror or as a light desk by a window.

── RESTORED IN OUR WORKSHOP IN NAVALCARNERO, MADRID ──

In the workshop, we reviewed the entire structure, reinforced the leg joints and the mirror frame, and checked that the tilting mechanism rotates and stays fixed in position. Then we hand-applied the stripped-back gray finish, customizing the color in our workshop, and checked the drawer's glide.

The piece is sturdy, the mirror tilts smoothly, and the drawer slides well. It arrives ready to take its place.

A piece selected and restored by Antique Arte y Decoración — specializing since 2015 in antique furniture, with its own workshop in Navalcarnero and serving over 3,500 families throughout Spain.
