What we know about this piece
The Second French Empire did not invent a style: it recovered previous ones. The Louis XV medallion armchair returned to salons in the second half of the 19th century, with more carving and more gilding. These two are from that era and worked together in a hotel in the south of France before passing through an antique dealer. They retain their hand-embroidered petit point, a different bouquet on each back and seat, and the spring seat. In the workshop, the structure was reinforced and the gilding consolidated. The varnish retains its flaws. The fabric, its stains.
Frequently asked questions
Are the armchairs original antiques or reproductions?
They are 19th-century originals, made in France during the Napoleon III period. The carving, the worn gilding on the edges, the spring seat, and the hand-embroidered petit point are all original. They come from an old hotel in the south of France and arrived at the workshop through an antique dealer.
What restoration has been done to this pair of armchairs?
The structure of both was inspected and reinforced, the gilding was consolidated where it was lifting, and the wood was hand-cleaned. The upholstery, the spring seat, and the varnish with its imperfections have been preserved. If new fabric is preferred, we can provide a re-upholstery quote before purchase. The work was carried out in our specialized workshop in Navalcarnero.
Where does a pair of antique armchairs look best in a home?
On either side of a fireplace, flanking a console in the hallway, or at the foot of the bed. Also separately: one in the living room and one in the bedroom. Each armchair measures 62 × 57 × 102 cm, with the seat at 47 cm.
How is the shipping of a pair of armchairs managed?
Shipping is free throughout the Peninsula. Delivery is carried out by the store's own staff: we place the pieces inside the home, where access allows, and remove the packaging. We do not deliver at street level.
