DESCRIPTION

A bedroom with a large bed needs two matching nightstands on either side, not one and a similar one bought later. Finding the perfect pair, with the same color and wear, is the difficult part.

This pair of nightstands was made in France in the mid-20th century, featuring the Louis XV line with cabriole legs and a raised-edge top. We chose them because they came together, with the same finish and wear, and because that finish cannot be bought ready-made.

They are painted in a soft ash gray, with a slight white distressed finish that reveals the light base on the edges and on the leg reliefs. Each nightstand has an upper drawer with a bronze handle and an open shelf below, without a door, designed to keep a book or a small lamp handy. The top tray has a perimeter lip that prevents anything placed on it from slipping.

36.5 cm wide, 33 cm deep, and 73 cm high, each. This is a small size, designed for bedrooms where there isn't much space on the sides of the bed, and it also works as an auxiliary table in a living room or a narrow hallway.

WHAT ISN'T MADE TODAY

→ The matching finish. Gray and white distressed finish on both nightstands, exactly the same, something a modern factory cannot reproduce without the difference between units being noticeable.

→ The complete pair. Finding two French nightstands of this size, with the same color and wear, is the part that is almost never achieved.

→ The open shelf. Instead of a second drawer, a visible space: less capacity, more visual lightness, typical of mid-century French design.

In our workshop, the ash gray finish with a slight white distressed look was applied to both nightstands, so they retain the same tone between them.

Both pieces leave with the finish already completed, ready to be placed on either side of the bed.
