In a bedroom, the most used piece of furniture is the one next to the bed.

It's also the one with the least space.

These Louis XV style bedside tables were manufactured in the second half of the 20th century from solid wood, featuring the tall leg and curved front of the French model. They are a pair: they left the same workshop together and remain together.

The front describes a gentle curve, and the three drawers follow it. Each drawer front is cut to follow this line instead of closing flush.

The top has a three-sided gallery, with the edge cut in a wavy profile. The knobs are brass, one per drawer, with no plate or keyhole competing with the lines of the furniture.

The cabriole legs start from the body and taper down to the floor. They occupy almost half of the total height.

32 cm wide, 32 cm deep, and 69 cm high. Each. This is one of the most compact measurements that pass through the workshop: it fits into a space where an ordinary nightstand no longer would.

The 69 cm height places the surface at mattress level for most modern beds. On either side of the bed, or a single one next to an armchair, in a narrow hallway or on a stair landing.

WHY THIS PIECE AND NOT ANOTHER

→ Three drawers in 32 cm width. Real storage in the width of an open notebook: glasses, charger, medication, what is currently stacked on the nightstand.

→ The curved front. The three drawers were cut following the line of the body, which is why the piece looks rounded from any angle, even with the drawers closed.

→ The legs. Slender, curved, and long: the floor is completely visible underneath. Two pieces of furniture with these legs on either side of the bed don't overwhelm the bedroom, even if the bedroom is small.

The structure of both pieces was reviewed, paying attention to the joint of the legs with the body: in such a thin and long leg, that is the joint that takes the stress. The drawers were adjusted to run smoothly without forcing, and the entire surface (body, edges, and gallery) was hand-sanded before painting.

The color is ours, and we state it clearly. Sky blue hand-painted over a white base, then distressed on the edges, the gallery trim, and the profile of the legs. The inside of the drawers is in the same tone.

The legs stand plumb, the drawers close flush with the front, and the finish is sealed. They are ready to come home.
