Married couples are the unfinished business of any bedroom. You buy a nightstand you love, and when you want a second one, it's already gone. You end up with two that don't match, or with just one and the feeling that something is missing.

This pair of Louis XV nightstands solves the problem from the root: they are two, identical, painted in a soft off-white. They bear the hallmark of the style—serpentine front, cabriole legs ending in a scroll, bronze handles—and were made in the mid-20th century. Three drawers each, which is more storage than a nightstand usually provides.

The white makes them chameleonic: they fit into a romantic, Nordic, or classic bedroom without asking for anything in return. The carved gallery on the top edge prevents things from slipping. And the tall, curved legs make them visually light despite the three drawers. We refurbished and hand-painted them in our workshop, one by one.

Each nightstand measures 41 centimeters wide, 29 deep, and 67 high: just the right height to be within reach from the bed. One on each side of the headboard, and the bedroom is complete, symmetrical, finished. They also work individually, as a side table next to an armchair.

No two pairs are alike. There will be no replenishment.

We worked on them as a set in the workshop to ensure they are identical. We checked the structure of both, adjusted the glide of the six drawers, and reinforced the cabriole legs where necessary. Then we sanded and hand-painted them in the same tone.

Today, both close and glide well, the color is uniform, and the pair arrives ready to be used on either side of the bed. They arrive ready to take their place.
