DESCRIPTION

In a well-designed bedroom, important objects are never alone. Lamps are chosen in pairs, as are pillows. Symmetry isn't an obsession; it's a visual respite.

These two nightstands were made in France in the Louis XV style: elongated cabriole legs ending in a scroll, a scalloped skirt, and a top gallery with a cut-out at the back. We have hand-painted them in an aged black that allows the wood to show through at the edges. No industrial paint can achieve that effect.

Each nightstand has a top drawer with a gilded bronze rococo handle, an open cubby underneath for books or a basket, and long legs that raise them off the floor. The back gallery prevents small items from falling behind when you reach for them. The inside of the drawer retains its natural wood finish, creating a contrast with the black exterior.

Each measures 37 centimeters wide, 29 deep, and 68 high. This height matches most modern mattresses, so your lamp, book, and glass of water will be at the correct level. They work perfectly in a master bedroom, flanking the bed, but can also be separated: one as a side table next to an armchair, the other as a narrow entryway table.

No two are alike. There will be no restock.

── WHAT WE LOVE MOST ABOUT THIS PIECE ──

→ The pair. Buying two identical nightstands in good condition with the same patina is almost impossible; usually, only one is found. These two come together, restored at the same time, and with the same finish, which is the most challenging thing to achieve with antique furniture.

→ The aged black. It's not a smooth lacquer; it's a layered process with intentional distressing on the edges and legs. It changes with the light: in the morning, it's almost graphite; in the afternoon, it absorbs warm light and becomes deeper.

→ The cabriole legs. They are long, slender, and end in a scroll volute. The proportions of an authentic Louis XV piece – that curve that rises, breaks, and descends again – are not replicated in contemporary furniture. Here, they are well-carved and perfectly balanced.

── RESTORED IN OUR WORKSHOP IN NAVALCARNERO, MADRID ──

We have reviewed the structure of both nightstands, adjusted the drawer glides, and reinforced the joints where time had loosened them. The surface has been hand-sanded, and the black paint has been applied in thin layers, allowing the wood to show through at the edges and legs so that the pieces do not look brand new. The original bronze hardware has been cleaned and preserved.

Both nightstands are level, the drawers open and close smoothly, and the finishes are consistent between them. They arrive ready to take their place on either side of the bed.

Two pieces selected and restored by Antique Arte y Decoración — specializing in antique furniture since 2015, with our own workshop in Navalcarnero and serving over 3,500 families across Spain.

Preguntas frecuentes
