DESCRIPTION

The surface of this table is a technical and artistic marvel. It is not carved from wood, but rather entirely covered by a leather panel, crafted according to the ancient Cordoban guadamecí tradition. The leather has been embossed, engraved, and polychromed by hand with pigments in golden, ochre, vermilion, and black tones, creating a relief of extraordinary complexity.

The iconographic program of the tabletop is a display of Renaissance erudition:

The central field: Against a deep black lacquered background, an oval cartouche with a grotesque mask of Mannerist inspiration (possibly Bacchus or Neptune) stands out, surrounded by gilded acanthus scrolls in high relief.

The perimeter border: A wide decorative band articulated in concentric friezes of vegetal scrolls, rope-like motifs, and egg-and-dart.

The figural medallions: In the corners and centers of the sides, circular medallions with profile portraits all'antica (in the style of Roman coins) are arranged. They depict warriors with plumed helmets, crowned figures, and characters with exotic headwear, evoking the iconography of the Spanish Empire and classical antiquity.

The trim: The entire perimeter of the tabletop is finished with a molding of gilded bronze hemispheres (boulles), which provides unparalleled tactile and visual richness.

The base: Solid walnut architecture

Supporting this work of art, we find a solid walnut structure of the "sideboard" or "lyre" typology, classic of the Spanish Renaissance. The two solid sides are carved and openworked with semicircular arches on turned pilasters. Stability is ensured by a thick central crossbeam and the characteristic hand-forged iron "S"-shaped braces, which connect the base to the top, providing a beautiful contrast of materials.
