DESCRIPTION

There are mirrors that reflect.

And there are mirrors that transform an entire room.

This is one of the latter.

It was made in France in the late 19th century, intended to grace a fireplace in a home where items were carefully chosen and never discarded.

The frame is hand-carved and gilded with authentic gold leaf—not gold paint, not a metallic finish. Real gold leaf, applied over a red bole base that subtly shows through in areas of greater wear. This is what gives it that warm tone that no modern mirror possesses.

The cresting: acanthus scrolls, floral garlands, and carved drapery that falls symmetrically over the arch. All in high relief. All sculpted, not molded.

The glass is the original period glass.

70 cm wide. 112 cm high. The perfect size to adorn a fireplace, crown a dresser, or become the centerpiece of an unforgettable entryway.

There is no other like it. There will be no restock.

── WHAT WE LOVE MOST ABOUT THIS PIECE ──

→ The gold leaf gilding: a technique over 500 years old that no machine can replicate. The hue changes with the daylight. In the morning, it's pale gold. In the afternoon, almost copper.

→ The original glass: it bears its marks of time—that aging effect that antique dealers call patina, which no new mirror can fake.

→ The carved drapery: the fabric folds falling over the arch are the detail that makes it a sculpture, not just a mirror.

── RESTORED IN OUR WORKSHOP IN NAVALCARNERO ──

We have inspected the entire structure, reinforced the joints, and consolidated the gilded areas where necessary. The original gold leaf is preserved. The glass is intact. It arrives ready to hang.
