DESCRIPTION

The bedroom is the only room in the house that no one else sees. Perhaps that's why it reveals the most about its inhabitant, and why we often leave it until last.

This four-poster canopy bed is hand-carved from solid wood, in the English colonial style that filled stately homes with beds like this. We have restored and finished it in pickled grayish-white in our workshop.

The four posts rise in a spiral turn, like a wooden rope, to a molded cornice canopy topped with finials. The headboard's crest is an openwork filigree of opposing scrolls, leaves, and a central bouquet. The front legs, curved and carved with acanthus leaves, end in a scroll foot. This type of hand carving doesn't come from a factory: each leaf is raised from the wood by a gouge.

It is a double bed for a 135 × 200 cm mattress. It measures 154 cm wide, 222 cm deep, and 225 cm high, so it requires a bedroom with ample ceiling height and space: a master bedroom, a country house, a space that wants to feature a protagonist. Dressed with curtains, it creates an alcove within the room itself.

No two are alike. There will be no restocking.

── WHAT WE LIKE MOST ABOUT THIS PIECE ──

→ The complete canopy. It's not just a tall headboard or four loose posts: it's a structure enclosed at the top, with a molded cornice and finials, from which curtains hang. This is what turns a bed into an alcove.

→ The openwork carving of the crest. Opposing scrolls, leaves, and a central bouquet, all hollowed out by hand. It is the most intricate piece of joinery on the entire bed and the first thing anyone entering the room sees.

→ The slightly pickled grayish-white. A handmade finish in the workshop that softens the carving, allows the wood grain to breathe, and fits equally well in a country house or a modern bedroom.

── RESTORED IN OUR WORKSHOP IN NAVALCARNERO, MADRID ──

We checked the entire structure —posts, side rails, canopy joints, and slatted base— and reinforced the connections where necessary so that the assembly is firm and without play. Then we hand-sanded the wood and applied the pickled grayish-white finish, a color chosen and worked in our workshop to highlight the carving.

It assembles solidly, the canopy fits well, and the slatted base is ready to receive the mattress. It arrives ready to take its place.

Preguntas frecuentes
