DESCRIPTION

The headboard is the most visible piece of furniture in a bedroom, and it's the one almost everyone chooses poorly. Most opt for fiber upholstered headboards with stretched fabric because that's what they see in contemporary furniture catalogs. But there's another option, the one that was chosen a hundred years ago and is still chosen in homes with discerning taste: hand-carved solid wood.

This headboard is made of solid wood with original carving, restored in our workshop. The wood was left exposed, in its natural color — without glossy varnishes, without lacquers, without stain. Only the wood grain and a waxed finish that protects it.

The central panel, arched at the top, is framed by a thin perimeter molding that outlines its entire contour. In the center of the crest, a carved cartouche featuring a fruit basket — apples, pears, pomegranates, and acanthus leaves — crowned by a ribbon. This is classic Louis XVI style decoration: the symbology of abundance and harmony above the resting place.

On the sides, two independent square posts rise above the crest and are topped with hand-carved vases, also featuring fruits. The legs taper to a pyramidal section, ending in a frustum foot. The connections of the central panel to the posts are resolved with C-shaped cut-out volutes — a detail of craftsmanship no longer seen in industrial furniture.

Leaving the wood exposed is an aesthetic decision. The glossy varnish and dark stains of the 19th century make a headboard like this visually heavy and only suitable for thematically classic bedrooms. Without varnish, in its natural light tone, it blends into bedrooms with sage green, beige, off-white, pearl gray walls. It combines with linen bedding, distressed white bedside tables, dusty pink and mint green tones. It works in Nordic interiors, country houses, and contemporary apartments with a warm touch.

It measures 160 cm wide, which fits perfectly with standard 150 cm mattresses. The total height is 136 cm up to the vases. The depth of the piece is only 5 cm — it rests against the wall and does not take up bedroom space.

── WHAT WE LOVE MOST ABOUT THIS PIECE ──

→ The carved cartouche with fruits and ribbon. It is hand-carved. It is not a glued appliqué from an industrial catalog. The fruits have real relief, the ribbon falls with a natural curve. You would spend half an hour looking at it.

→ The two vases on the finials. Carved fruits inside cupped vases. A sculptural detail that transforms a flat headboard into an architectural piece.

→ The exposed wood, unvarnished, unstained. It fits into modern interiors without compromising the style of the rest of the bedroom.

── RESTORED IN OUR WORKSHOP IN NAVALCARNERO, MADRID ──

In the workshop, we have reviewed the entire structure, assembled all joints, and treated the wood against wood-boring insects. The carvings were cleaned by hand, respecting all reliefs. The wood was gently sanded to even out the tone, and natural wax was applied as a final finish.

It arrives ready to be fixed to the wall or bed frame using hidden screws.

One piece, only one unit available.

Preguntas frecuentes
