DESCRIPTION

A china cabinet is not just any piece of furniture. It's the piece that dictates what is stored and what is displayed — and it almost always ends up being the most looked-at item in the room.

This display cabinet was born in some Castilian carpentry workshop in the mid-20th century, when furniture was still built to last generations. Solid pine, handmade joints, stamped fittings, no shortcuts.

The door is the first thing that catches the eye: a semicircular arch divided into six panels of textured glass — the embossed glass that filters light and allows a glimpse of what's inside without fully revealing it. The lower part, made of solid wood, is decorated with metal studs in a diamond pattern, a clear inheritance from Spanish tavern furniture. The Gothic-shaped brass hardware and the wrought-iron handle complete a piece that is unlike anything manufactured today.

At 159 centimeters high and 104 wide, it has presence without being overbearing. It fits in a kitchen with character, in a dining room where good dinnerware is to be displayed, or as a sideboard in a hallway that needs authority.

No two are alike. There will be no restocking.

── WHAT WE LOVE MOST ABOUT THIS PIECE ──

→ The textured glass of the door. That embossed texture is a type of glass no longer mass-produced: each panel filters light differently and creates a changing effect depending on the time of day.

→ The decorative studs on the lower part, arranged in a diamond pattern. Each one hand-nailed, unique. It's the detail that reveals the skill of the Castilian carpenter and that no current factory replicates.

→ The brass hardware with a Gothic design. The patina of time has given them a tone that no modern finish achieves — they have darkened in just the right areas, shining where they have been touched for decades.

── RESTORED IN OUR WORKSHOP IN NAVALCARNERO, MADRID ──

We worked on the entire structure to restore its original firmness: we checked the joints, reinforced where necessary, treated the wood against wood-boring insects, and left it free of woodworm. The surface underwent hand-sanding that respects the grain of the pine before applying the dark walnut finish that the piece calls for.

The textured glass of the door is preserved in its original condition — clean, with the brass hardware adjusted so that the door closes as it should. The interior has three sturdy shelves, ready for dinnerware, books, or decorations. It arrives ready to take its place.

A piece selected and restored by Antique Arte y Decoración — specializing since 2015 in antique furniture, with its own workshop in Navalcarnero and serving more than 3,500 families throughout Spain.

Preguntas frecuentes
