Black is the most challenging color to incorporate into furniture. When it works, it doesn't darken a room; it centers it. Everything else begins to revolve around it.

This antique chest of drawers is a solid wood Spanish piece from the late 19th or early 20th century. The structure, drawers, and medallion carving are original to the period; we applied the pickled black finish in our workshop to bring it into a contemporary style without erasing its character.

Each drawer features a carved medallion of concentric circles, framed by moldings that trace the piece's silhouette. Turned half-columns flank the front, the lower skirt is scalloped, and it rests on bun feet. Beneath the black, the edges reveal the warm wood—that controlled wear that factory finishes can't replicate.

At 119 cm wide and 110 cm high, it's a dresser with presence: it demands a wall all to itself. It works as a central piece in a bedroom, under a mirror in a hallway, or as a visual anchor in a living room. The four spacious drawers provide real, not just decorative, storage.

── WHAT WE LIKE MOST ABOUT THIS PIECE ──

→ The pickled black finish, handmade in our workshop. It's not a flat paint layer; it's a textured black that allows the wood to show through at the edges and over the reliefs. This ensures the carving is readable rather than buried under the color.

→ The solid wood and its true weight. Sixty kilograms of antique structure that you notice when opening a drawer: they glide smoothly and close precisely. The density of a piece from this era is not found in modern furniture.

→ The medallion carving. The concentric circles repeated on each drawer give the dresser an almost graphic, unintentionally modern rhythm. This is what makes it work equally well in a classic or contemporary home.

── RESTORED IN OUR WORKSHOP IN NAVALCARNERO, MADRID ──

We inspected the entire structure and reinforced joints and drawer runners where needed due to use. We treated the wood against wood-boring insects until it was free of woodworm. Then we hand-sanded it and applied the custom pickled black finish in our workshop.

The dresser is firm, with all four drawers running smoothly, the ring pulls secure, and the finish uniform and stable. It arrives ready to take its place.
